Wexford’s fixtures for the Leinster Championship were released recently…
First up for the Wexford Senior hurlers will be a home clash against Dublin. Last year, it was felt that Wexford left the game behind them in Croke Park, having hit a significant number of wides from distance.
An away trip to Antrim will be their next game and it’s one that has the potential to cause some problems. Realistically, Wexford should come away with the win, but it’s never an easy game for any side in Corrigan Park, Belfast.
In the following game, they’ll have a home clash to Galway. In the 2023 campaign, Wexford travelled to Pearse Park. Despite their blistering start, they were dominated for most of the game and struggled to get going. The fact that they will play Galway at home in Chadwicks Wexford Park, however, could prove to be a huge difference.
An away clash against Carlow will be their next games, before an almighty away trip to our neighbours, Kilkenny. Last year, Wexford had to conjure up a win in the last round against Kilkenny to secure their place in the Leinster Hurling Championship. It felt like Wexford left their best game of the season until the last game, but it also highlighted that Wexford do have the pedigree to beat the top teams too.
For the 2024 season in the Leinster Championship, Wexford fans will be looking for consistency and a fresh start under new manager, Keith Rossiter.
For those interested, Wexford are 7/1 to capture the Bob O’Keeffe Cup, a feat which they have not done since their success in 2019.
