Watch: Wexford’s Festy Ebosele hopes that Stephen Kenny can continue as Ireland manager

Wexford’s Festy Ebosele plays his football at Udinese in Italy

The 21-year-old Wexford man has been enjoying a spell with Udinese, being involved in the club’s previous twelve matches.

As a result of his performances in the Italian Serie A, he was drafted into the Republic of Ireland Senior squad under Stephen Kenny.

Ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s clash against the Netherlands on Saturday, Ebosele was handed media duties.

Speaking to media at the press conference, the former Moyne Rangers encouraged others to keep their options open – and not keep their eyes solely on England:

“It’s been working out for me. Some other players are going out there now as well. Hopefully they will see it as another opportunity, not just to see in England, but to venture elsewhere as well. If you’re not afraid to take the risk, you will improve in the long run. Once you get used to it, it’s very enjoyable. I had to learn Italian. It’s good. I can speak good Italian now.”

Another question posed to the young Wexford man was regarding Stephen Kenny’s tenure. Speaking about his relationship with the Irish football manager, he noted that it was a positive one and wished for him to continue in his role:

“He always calls me during the season at random times, just to check in and see if I’m doing well. I think he’s a great manager. I enjoy working with him – and hopefully I can continue to work with him,” he said.

The Republic of Ireland lost 1-0 to the Netherlands on Saturday evening. Unfortunately for Festy, he was forced to withdraw from the Irish squad for their clash due to injury.
