Winning streak continues for young Wexford boxer as he defeats Serbian representative

A young Wexford boxer is currently representing his county and country abroad…

16-year-old Patrick Kelly, who fights out of Kilmyshal Boxing Club in Wexford, is representing Ireland at the World Junior Boxing Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.

Last Friday, he made a fantastic start to the tournament. In his opening fight, he defeated Edgar Cornejo Pinacho of Mexico in the featherweight division, boxing at 57kg. Kelly won 5-0, the judge’s giving him a unanimous win.

Today, Kelly continued his winning ways in splendid fashion which has now placed him into the semi-final stages of the International competition.

The young Wexford native defeated Ognjen Antic who was representing Serbia in the ring.

Kelly won with a 4-1 win according to the judge’s scorecards.

Kelly is the only Wexford representative on Team Ireland at the World Junior Boxing Championship. Kelly’s next fight will be on Thursday and it’s sure to be one that many Wexford people will be keeping tabs on.

Kelly will be fighting either the Afghan representative Sahak or the Moldovan Marga in the quarter-finals of the competition.
