Wexford man to captain team against boyhood club Manchester United in next round of FA Cup

A Wexford man will captain his side in the next round of the FA Cup…

It’ll be a huge occasion for Ryan Delaney who captains his side, Newport County.

The Exiles will face a mammoth task when they take on the mighty reds, Manchester United, in the next round of the competition.

To make the moment more special, Delaney was an avid follower of Manchester United during his younger years when growing up.

Delaney played his underage football with New Ross Celtic before moving across the water to play professional football with an array of teams.

County booked a money-spinning fourth round date with the 12-time winners at Rodney Parade on January 28th by winning 3-1 at non-league Eastleigh on Tuesday.

The Newport County manager, Graham Coughlan, has described hosting Manchester United in the FA Cup as the biggest game in the club’s history.
