Wexford girl makes history and wins National Senior pole-vault championship

A Wexford girl has got her hands on national silverware….

Kara Morrissey, who hails from Enniscorthy, won the Women’s Senior pole vault championship yesterday at the National indoor arena.

Kara is currently a student at the Presentation College in Wexford.

She is National juvenile champion and record holder. At the cmopetition, she was also representing St Laurence O’Toole Athletics Club in Carlow.

At yesterday’s competition, she defeated Cork’s Meabh Corkery who came a close second, just being ruled out by the Wexford woman.

She has represented Ireland on two occasions in this event; she added the national Women’s title yesterday and at just 16 years old, she has become the youngest person ever to win prestigious event .
