Wexford County Council issues warning to public as fraudsters are posing as Council workers

Wexford County Council have had to report an issue to the Guards…

In an announcement made today, Wexford County Council have stated that they have had to report an issue of fake County Council workers to An Garda Siochana.

The issue relates to the Clonroche area of Enniscorthy, Wexford, however, there may be similar stories from across the county in recent times.

In Limerick last month, the Limerick Post ran a similar story of ‘scammers’ posing to be County Council workers within their county.

Similar to Limerick, one could assume that ‘posers’ would charge a fee at a “reduced cost” from individuals after completing the job. It led one County Councillor to state these people should “hang their heads in shame” as they “are scamming the public in the midst of a cost of living crisis.” One Limerick woman fell victim to the scam, owing €5,000 to the fraudsters after the “amateurish job.”

“We have received reports of people posing as Wexford County Council workers in the Clonroche area, falsely claiming to be conducting work on behalf of the Council and offering to resurface driveways using leftover macadam from road projects.”

“This matter has been reported to An Garda Síochána. If you receive any offers of a similar nature, please contact your local Garda Station,” the statement reads from Wexford County Council.

The Wexford County Council has urged the public to be wary of this and to report any similar issues to their local Garda Station.
