RTE pundit Jackie Tyrrell takes the positives from Wexford’s performance against Dublin

The Wexford hurlers could only manage a draw against Dublin on Sunday

Dublin scored two late goals deep into injury time to tie the game and come out with a point at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Although Wexford will be bitterly disappointed with the result after being five points up with less than two minutes remaining, RTE pundit Jackie Tyrrell highlighted some of the positives that Wexford can take from their recent performances.

“Score difference might come in to play. Wexford will be going to Nowlan Park in their last game of the round robin. They’ve a good record there.”

“If you look across the League and Championship, they’ve played six games and they’ve drawn four of them. Some of those draws were Kilkenny and Clare – not easy to get results there. You do feel that Wexford could get a result somewhere down the line, whether that be it Kilkenny or Galway. They probably hold the advantage at the minute; you don’t know with Dublin at the minute. Was that just a flash in the pan? You don’t know where Dublin will get their other points, with all due respect to Antrim and Carlow. It’s nicely poised for them,” the Kilkenny legend remarked on RTE’s The Sunday Game.

Likewise, former Cork goalkeeper, Donal Óg Cusack shared a similar view.

“Dublin will struggle to get out of Leinster. Wexford are better placed to get a result against some of the bigger teams that Dublin wont,” he said.

Wexford will take on Antrim in Corrigan Park next weekend and they’ll be hoping to bounce back and get their first Championship win on the board. Read more about the talking points following Wexford’s draw against Dublin here.
