Young Wexford girl to represent Ireland in athletics next Saturday in Wales

A young Wexford girl will be representing Ireland in Athletics next Saturday…

Lea Bolger from Killurin and a member of Bree Athletic Club will be travelling to Wales to represent Ireland and Loreto Secondary School, Wexford, at the SIAB International Track and Field Games on Saturday, 20th July.

At just fifteen years of age, Lea is one of the youngest members of the 80 strong athletic team competing in Carmarthen, Wales. The SIAB International Games rotates between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales with each country hosting the event every 4 years.

Lea, from a tender age, was a multi disciplined athlete with many County and Leinster successes in sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws. However, in the past three years, she has concentrated on the Shot and Hammer under the direction of DMP AC coach, John White, with All Ireland successes in the Hammer.

Recently, she won the silver medal in that event at the Tailteann Games and this resulted in her selection on the Irish team.

However, Lea will have no time to rest up after her trip to Wales, as on the following day, she competes in the National AAI Track and Field Championships in Tullamore in both Hammer and Shot Put as a member of Bree Athletic Club.
