Read below to discover the latest tips from Wexford’s card on Wednesday courtesy of BoyleSports, who offer the latest horse racing odds throughout the season.
The opening race of the evening (4.45) will see a maximum field of 14 take to the track for the fillies maiden hurdle over the two-miles and 160 yard trip around Wexford. Burvea is lightly-raced for a four-year-old and was shaping well when last seen in this sphere before a spin on the Flat to resume her campaign so with that under her belt, it should go a long way to being right amongst it here. Of her rivals, a newcomer from the powerhouse Gordon Elliott yard in Clongorey is one to note with reigning champion jockey Jack Kennedy booked for the ride.
Another maximum field of 14 will head to the stalls for division one of the 80-95 rated handicap hurdle to mark race two on the card (5.15) with preference here heading to Grizabella for the Shark Hanlon yard, a winner over this course and distance on his last run back on July 27. In division two of the same discipline (5.45) Grandpa Ger looked a top prospect when fourth in a female riders contest at Wexford last time and now with fully-fledged jockey Danny Mullins in the saddle, heads the chances in race three on the card.
Eleven runners are set to head to the start for race four on the card, a two-mile and three furlong beginners chase for four-year-old’s and upwards (6.15). Ballybawn Belter heads chasing for the first time after performing well over hurdles for trainer Liz Doyle and should have too much here for Watch The Weather, a useful hurdler and third of 14 in a novice chase at Wexford 25 days ago.
The Paul Nolan-trained An Peann Dearg makes his handicap debut in race five on the card (6.45) having been a respectable six of 14 in a Wexford novice chase last time out and is opening up on a lenient mark here so has to be taken seriously. Of his rivals in this two-mile and three furlong handicap chase, Malton Groove returned to form for trainer Dermot McLoughlin last time out when third of 16 at this track last month and cannot be ruled out.
The longest race by distance marks race six on the Wednesday card at 7.15 as a field of 14 will tackle the three-mile handicap chase where the Elliott/Kennedy combination team up on Sea Aster, a winner at Clonmel in June and second of 14 in a handicap chase at this course a fortnight ago to head the field. Course and distance winner Goodnightgodbless cannot be ruled out but needs to bounce back after being pulled up here last time out, while 2021 Irish Grand National winner Freewheelin’ Dylan is also among the runners on show.
A two-mile handicap chase is the penultimate race on the card (7.45) and the Elliott/Kennedy team have another live chance in Miss Agusta, an excellent third of eight in a movie chase at this track two weeks back and has more to offer but will face stern competition from Falcon Park, who landed a career best when winning at Wexford’s last meeting for trainer Emmett Mullins.
Finally, the card comes to a close with the bumper (8.15) over the two-mile distance and preference in the finale heads to Cool Summer, fourth in a Tipperary bumper on National Hunt debut last month with plenty left in the tank that day so it taken to go three spots better to close the Wexford meeting.
