There is no shortage of excellent coffee shops across County Wexford…
Only three days ago, a 24-year old secondary school teacher opened up her brand-new coffee shop in County Wexford.
Wexford’s Leanne McDonnell decided to open up a coffee shop — namely The Nouk — in her local village of Killinick, County Wexford.
“I saw an opportunity to create a welcoming spot where people could grab a great cup of speciality coffee on the go. Coffee has become a big part of people’s daily routine, and I wanted to offer high-quality coffee, friendly service, and a convenient local option for the community,” she told Wexford Weekly.
Launch day for The Nouk took place on Bank Holiday Sunday and Leanne told us that the opening day couldn’t have went any better:
“The response on launch day was beyond words. We had a consistent flow of great customers throughout the day, and it was great to see so many local people coming out to support us. Since opening, we’ve been delighted with the positive feedback, repeat customers, and the support we’ve received through word of mouth and social media.”
Coffee shops are all the craze not only in Wexford, but across Ireland now. There has been a shift from people leaving the ‘pubs’ and enjoying a healthier lifestyle, especially within the younger age groups. For Leanne, however, she believes that both coffee shops and pubs are not in direct competition and they can compliment each other in the community:
“I see them as two completely different things. People visit pubs and coffee shops for different reasons and at different times of the day. A great coffee is part of many people’s daily routine, while pubs are more about socialising, entertainment, and evenings out with friends and family. We don’t see coffee replacing pubs—it’s a different game altogether. Both play an important role in the local community and can complement each other rather than compete with each other,” Leanne said.
At the moment, their opening times are standard opening times. They will open from Wednesday-Friday 7am – 3:30pm and then on weekends from 8am – 3:30pm. That could change into the future though.
“At the moment, our focus is on serving customers during the busiest daytime hours, particularly mornings and afternoons. However, we’re always listening to customer feedback, and if there is enough demand, we would certainly consider extending our opening hours or hosting occasional evening events: collaborations in the future.”
When just starting off in business, and in the coffee shop business, it’s vital not to over-complicate things. Coffee and hospitality is their number one right now. However, down the line, they’re hoping to expand their menu — providing multiple other options for customers in the community:
“Our immediate goal is to continue building a loyal customer base and consistently deliver excellent coffee and service. Looking ahead, we’d like to expand our menu, introduce seasonal specials, and create even more reasons for people to stop by. We are always exploring ways to improve the customer experience and become an even bigger part of the local community.”
There is a real community feel from Killinick and this new coffee shop. Leanne was quick to thank everyone who helped The Nouk become a possibilty while encouraging everyone and anyone to pop in:
“We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us since opening. The encouragement from the local community has been incredible, and we’re excited about the future. Whether you’re a regular coffee drinker or just passing by, we look forward to welcoming you and serving you soon. Feedback is so important to to us,” she said.
The Nouk, in the village of Killinick in County Wexford, is open from Wednesday-Friday 7am – 3:30pm and then on weekends from 8am – 3:30pm.
