Bookies not giving Wexford FC a chance in FAI Cup semi-final

There is a buzz around Wexford ahead of this weekend’s FAI Cup semi-final…

Wexford FC travel to Drogheda to take on Drogheda United in the FAI Senior Cup semi-final.

The game takes place on Sunday afternoon (October 6th) in Drogheda’s home ground, Weaver’s Park.

Despite Wexford FC’s excellent run-of-form as late in the League of Ireland First Division, the major bookmakers are not giving the Model County much of a chance in their upcoming tie. Wexford FC are the only remaining First Division side left in the competition, with Drogheda, Derry City and Bohemians being the other teams.

It is new heights for Wexford FC. They have never reached this far in the FAI Senior Cup, but that does not mean it’s impossible to go further either.

Betting odds:

Drogheda United 1/3

Draw 17/5

Wexford FC 6/1

A win for Wexford FC will see them play on hallowed turf in Ireland’s capital city of Dublin. The prospect alone of playing at the Aviva Stadium on Cup final day against one of the big hitters – either Derry City or Bohs – should be enough motivation alone for Wexford FC.

“It’s a brilliant week to look forward to with the semi-final of the FAI Cup and a chance to play in the Aviva if you win.”

“We’re there or thereabouts in the playoffs as well so we can’t ask for much more really,” manager James Keddy told radio station Beat 102-103.

It’s interesting to see that the bookies are not giving Wexford FC much of a chance here, despite their excellent run of form. At the end of the day, it’s a game of football over 90 minutes and anything can happen.

A significant Wexford FC crowd is expected to attend the clash, with multiple supporters’ buses going to support their faithful. Given that it’s a home clash for Drogheda, a large crowd is expected from their side too, with Drogheda seeing the Wexford FC game as an excellent chance to reach an FAI Cup final.

The match will also be available to watch live on RTÉ2 on Sunday, October 6th, from 2:45pm.
