Wexford boxer David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy wins professional boxing debut to become 1-0

It was a perfect start for this new professional Wexford boxer this evening…

Daivd ‘Bomber’ Kennedy, who hails from Gorey in County Wexford, entered the professional boxing ranks at the “Warehouse” in the Red Cow this evening, Friday October 4th.

28-year old Kennedy was fighting 32-year old Polish boxer, Michal Malicki.

In the four by three minute round contest, the Wexford man dominated the first three rounds. Blood could be seen streaming from the nose of Malicki as early as the opening round. Kennedy’s slick footwork, along with his fast hand movement, caught the eye of the commentators and those in attendance.

The Gorey man was caught at the start of the fourth round. But, for the most part, he was unfazed. He went back to what he knew best; fighting from distance, counter-punching, and jabbing his opponent.

At the end of the four rounds, Kennedy’s hand was raised for a points victory. A unanimous decision for the Wexford man on his pro debut with four rounds of professional boxing now in the bank too.

It was the perfect start for Kennedy as he starts his professional boxing career, having enjoyed a lot of success in the amateur ranks when younger.

The Gorey and Wexford faithful, who travelled up on multiple buses for the fight, were delighted to see one of their own raise the purple and gold flag entitled “Gorey Bomb Squad” and see his hand raised at the end of the contest. On the JB Promotions event on the night, the commentators stated that with the crowd for Kennedy, “it’s like his main event.”

For Kennedy, he believes that the professional ranks are more suited to his game. After his performance in the Red Cow in Dublin last night on his debut, it would be hard to argue against him too. He didn’t look like a person who was making his professional debut. With his patience, his pin-point accuracy, and his ability to not let the big lights get to him, it looks like Kennedy’s career could be a prosperous one.

There’s no doubt that tougher tasks lie ahead, but it’s always great to go unfazed on your professional debut in front of what can be described as a home crowd for Kennedy.
