It’s always interesting when two sports people from different sports come together…
That has always been the case for two of these Wexford and Gorey locals. Former Wexford professional boxer, Niall Kennedy, was joined by Wexford hurling star, Conor McDonald, on his most recent vodcast.
Unlike others, one thing that was quite unique about the vodcast was that the Wexford sporting pair are actually good friends too. When younger, Kennedy would have trained a young McDonald in the boxing ring at Gorey Boxing club; in later years when Kennedy turned professional, he was utilising McDonald’s knowledge and his gym at 14 Fitness.
Kennedy invited McDonald onto his vodcast which is called “Up and at it with Basil”.
Kennedy then shared the unedited and unfiltered clip to his YouTube channel, which is available to watch below:
Previously, the Wicklow Garda and owner of business NBK Survival Training, had an array of interesting guests on where they openly spoke about mental health issues, panic attacks, social anxiety, and remaining positive even during the difficult times.
It’s clear what Kennedy is trying to do with his platform. He’s trying to continue spreading the word that there is always help out there for whoever needs it and that many people struggle in their own lives. Another thing he promotes is the benefits of exercise and it has become a common theme across all guests on the vodcasts, who have all shared the same advice to continue exercising and remaining active.
Interestingly, it’s not the only vodcast that McDonald has been apart of this week. He was also the most recent guest on the new podcast “Humans of Gaelic Games.” The discussions were quite different though. One was mostly about sport, while Kennedy’s seemed like a more informal chat with a friend about everything and anything, including struggles and perseverance.
