Analysis – Wexford’s perspective:

The Leinster Senior Hurling Championship will follow its usual format, of a round-robin of six teams with the top two qualifying for the provincial final, and the third-placed team going into an All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final.

Once again, Kilkenny is Wexford’s final game – meaning that Wexford’s hopes in the Leinster Championship could boil down to that final group game.

Keith Rossiter and the Wexford Senior hurling team will be hoping to right some wrongs from last year’s campaign. Up first for the team will be a home clash to Antrim, a team which defeated Wexford during last year’s Leinster Championship campaign. This year, Wexford will be welcoming Davy Fitzgerald back to Wexford Park in their opening game, as Fitzgerald has been named the new manager of the Antrim Senior hurlers. This opening round will take place on the weekend of April 19th at Chadwicks Wexford Park. Both teams, who will view it is a must-win and one that both could win, will be focussing on this game to get off to a perfect start to the campaign.

This will be followed by an away clash against Dublin the following week. Last year, Wexford had dropped a five point lead against the Dubs in the final moments of the game at Wexford Park, allowing Dublin to snatch a draw. Dublin have been Wexford’s bogey team as such in recent years; some results have went Dublin’s way when the game was really in Wexford’s hands to win. A home clash for Dublin, this will be a crucial game for both team’s hopes of progressing into the Leinster final.

An away clash will be next, this time against Galway. Wexford enjoyed a victory against Galway last year, but with a trip to the West, it’s never an easy task. One stand-out aspect from the fixture list though is the fact that Wexford will have a rest week before they face Galway, which could work in their favour after a likely gruelling battle with Dublin.

Wexford’s two remaining games will be against Offaly – and then Kilkenny – both which will be home clashes for the Model County. In recent years, Offaly have enjoyed some success over Wexford at u-20 level, but whether they will take points from Wexford at Senior level in 2025 could be a step too far for the newly-promoted Faithful County.

Wexford’s last time winning the Leinster Championship was five years ago, back in 2019. The Wexford team, management, and fans will be hoping for similar success in 2025.
