It was an excellent night for followers of Wexford pro boxing…
The headlined bout between Tyrone McKenna and Dylan Moran gathered a lot of attention, but from a Wexford perspective, there were more eyes on two of Wexford’s Deans.
Dean Walsh, who was making his professional debut, knocked his opponent down four times in the first round before the referee called a halt to the fight.
His Wexford stablemate – and training partner for this fight – Dean Gonzalez Furlong lived up to his name of “Speedy” too.
Walking out to the famous Wexford tune “The Purple and Gold” by the Wild Swans and donning the purple and gold drapes, Dean Gonzalez Furlong put in somewhat of a masterclass, not allowing his opponent – Sebastian Wojtan – to inflict any damage whatsoever.
Like Dean Walsh, Dean Gonzalez Furlong got the job done in the first round – securing a first round stoppage as his opponent wasn’t fit to continue.
It means that the Wexford boxer is now 3-0 in the professional boxing ranks.
The Wexford fighters, alongside David Bomber Kennedy, on his comeback, are calling for a Wexford card – and it’s an idea that’s not too far away, according to Dean Gonzalez Furlong.
A Wexford homecoming for Wexford’s three pro boxers, so early in their career, would be incredible to see.
