Three Wexford natives have been nominated for national sporting awards…

The 2024 Her Sport Awards, presented by Lidl, will take place on Saturday, 25th January 2025, at UCD Astra Hall.

It continues a proud tradition of celebrating the incredible achievements of Irish sportswomen and the volunteers who make sport possible.

Three Wexford women have been nominated for Her Sport Awards.

Irish rugby player and Ballygarret local, Aoife Wafer, has been nominated in the Young Athlete Of The Year category. Athletes must have been Under 23 for the duration of 2024. Aoife will be joined in the nomination list by Emma Slevin, Eve McMahon, Kyla Doyle, Lara Gillespie, Leah Hough, Lucy Bénézet Minns, Orla Prendergast, Rhasidat Adeleke, and Róisín Ní Ríain.

Meanwhile, another Wexford athlete – Sophie Becker – has been nominated in the Team Of The Year category for her involvement with the Irish Athletics 4x400m relay team. Alongside Becker competing in the same Team of the Year category will be Linda Kelly from New Ross who competed in the Irish para-cycling team as a pilot alongside Katie-George Dunlevy.

Just last week, Linda Kelly picked up an award in the Irish Times Team of the Year at Sportswoman Awards 2024.

The other nominations for the Team of the Year include Athlone Town, Cork Camogie, Irish Rowing pair, Ireland Cerebral Palsy Football, the Ireland Cricket team, Ireland para-cycling, Ireland rugby 15s, Kerry ladies football, and Kilkerrin-Clonberne Ladies Football.
