An old Tayto bag has been found on a Wexford beach…
Wexford Councillor, Leonard Kelly, found an old Tayto bag on Rosslare beach on Sunday afternoon. The name ‘Tayto’ has become synonymous in Ireland, first reaching the Irish markets in May 1954.
It is believed that the Tayto packet is from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. The price tag, which would have been on the bag, has been washed away over time. This would have given a more accurate time-frame on when the Tayto bag arrived in the Irish market. The packet that Leonard Kelly found may be from the 1970s, when the 3p bag was around.

It’s not the first time that an old Tayto bag has been found on an Irish beach. In August 2021, Rush Tidy Town volunteers found a 50-year-old Tayto crisp bag.
“An aluminium lined crisp bag can take up to 100 years to disintegrate so this shows the importance of making sure we dispose of our rubbish correctly,” the report highlighted.
It’s a rare find, especially when you consider the find was on a beach in Wexford circa 50 years later, but it also does highlight the importance of disposing rubbish appropriately.
