There are a lot of things to do in Wexford…
There are tonnes of visitor and tourist attractions, things to do, and excellent restaurants and pubs to check out while you’re in the Model County.
However, some people would just simply love to play a game of pool. Pool has always been popular in Ireland and in Wexford, but over the last number of years, the popularity of the game has grown exponentially. Many people heading out for a pint do not just have a thirst for a pint anymore; but they have a thirst and desire to compete in some friendly competition on the pool table.
Here, we go through our Top 5 best places to go for a game of pool across County Wexford.
5- The Coal Bunker, Wexford
The Coal Bunker in Wexford town typically hosts pool tournaments every Wednesday at their premises with guaranteed prizes up for grabs for the winners. Entries cost €5 and players of all skill levels are invited to compete for a guaranteed €100 prize.

4-One for the road, Ballycanew
For two years in a row, they have hosted massive pool tournaments for the North Wexford community. Last year, 64 people entered their pool competition. It’s no surprise either because their pool table is one of the best in Wexford.

The pool tournament back then was played over 3 pristine pool tables, with €1,000 up for grabs. That took place in August, so if you fancy your chances next August, you’ll need to keep your eyes pealed.

3 – Breen’s Bar, Gorey
Breen’s Bar is located in the heart of Gorey. There are not many pool tables around Gorey town. The other pool tables are located at The Complex Bar in Clonattin, while The Loch Garman Arms have an excellent pool table. Since Breaker’s Pool and Snooker club closed down in the town centre, Breen’s Bar have reaped the rewards and stand-out in terms of pool culture.

There are two excellent and fast tables to play on. They are located in the downstairs of Breen’s Bar, to the back of the bar – with one room dedicated to being solely a ‘pool’ room. There are even some previous Youth European and World Champions that regularly play here – but don’t be daunted. It may be difficult to get on the pool tables during the busy Friday and Saturday nights due to its popularity, but put your euro down, enjoy a creamy pint, and get ready to battle.

2- Oulart Hill Bar
The pool culture in Oulart has been on the rise over the last number of years. Oulart Hill Bar is to thank for that. Gary’s – also known as Oulart Hill Bar – undoubtedly possess two of the best two pool tables in all of Wexford.

Like Breen’s Bar, they can get busy during the weekends. The standard is quite solid here too, but you’ll be welcomed with open arms if you enjoy a game of pool. They play ‘League rules’ here, which adds to the consistency of the rules and the games as opposed to new rules being thrown around by every new player you play against.
One of the best aspects of this pool room, located out the back, is the space. Even though they have two pool tables, you won’t be short on space while aiming for your shot.

1- Billy Kelly’s, Wexford town
This one probably goes without saying. The best pool area in all of Wexford has to be Billy Kelly’s in Wexford town. Walking into this place is like walking into pool heaven. There are countless tables here, meaning you’re never waiting too long for a game – even if it’s busy. The pool culture is massive here and we are not surprised.

Customers enjoy playing pool here in the evenings – and all day on the weekends – before heading down further into Wexford town to enjoy their night. For many, it’s the start of the night out when you venture here for a few games, so there’s always a lively but friendly atmosphere. Like Oulart Hill Bar, space is plentiful here too, despite the number of pool tables.
