Wexford pub receives top honour in America

The ‘Wexford’ bar and restaurant has received a top honour in America…

The bar in restaurant is located in Savannah, Georgia in the US.

Savannah is certainly the “most Wexford” city in the United States, as per the Georgia Southern University.

Both Savannah and Wexford have a lot of links throughout history and in contemporary times. Savannah has a particular fondness for Wexford, where more than half of the Irish people who emigrated to Georgia during the Great Hunger hailed from. So much is the fondness that a pub has been named which highlights the connection.

The pub, owned  by Tim & Jennifer Strickland and Chris Swanson, only opened its doors last Summer and it has already gained national plaudits in the United States of America.

The “Wexford” was one of 44 restaurants featured in USA TODAY’s illustrious list of the best restaurants across the country of America.

Some of the bar and restaurant’s interior was exported from Wexford to the “Wexford” pub. The restaurant itself boasts a beautiful traditional Irish design, showcasing the links between the two places.

Irish Minister for Social Protection of Ireland, Dara Calleary, will be visiting Savannah in Georiga next month for the St Patrick’s Day parade; we’re sure he’ll pay a visit to this establishment on his travels.
