It’s not ideal for John Hegarty and the Wexford Senior footballers…
With Laois coming to Wexford Park this weekend for a preliminary quarter-final in the Leinster championship, Wexford have been dealt some major blows.
Two of Wexford’s starting team have been ruled out of the upcoming Leinster Senior Football championship match.
Both Glen Malone and Martin O’Connor have been ruled out of the clash against Laois this weekend at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
Malone picked up an injury in the warm-up of Wexford’s Allianz League Final clash with Limerick last weekend. As a result, despite being named to start at wing-back, he did not feature in the game whatsoever due to the injury.
Meanwhile, another player set to miss out for Wexford is Bunclody clubman, Martin O’Connor. O’Connor, who started last week’s Allianz League final, picked up a knock and was forced off through injury.
Even though Wexford will be without these two key defenders, not all is lost. Spirits are still high after gaining promotion to Division 3 – and a win against Laois, in front of their home crowd, is not impossible. Laois, who are a Division 3 side, enter the game as 8/15 favourites.
A win against Laois will see Wexford take on Louth in the Leinster Senior Football quarter-final the following weekend.
