Wexford FC drop points for fielding ineligible player

Wexford FC have dropped points…

Wexford FC have been dropped three points due to fielding an ineligible player in a previous match.

An Independent Disciplinary Committee found that Wexford FC fielded an ineligible player in a 3-0 win over UCD in the Men’s First Division on 14th February 2025.

They found that Wexford FC player, Darragh Dunne, was ineligible.

It means that the result has now been reversed and that UCD have been awarded 3 points, as Wexford FC have consequently forfeited the game 3-0 in favour of UCD.

It was Stephen Elliot’s first win of the season in the opening game of the season as new Wexford FC boss.

Wexford FC were not the only team to be sanctioned. The Independent Committee found that Kerry FC fielded an ineligible player, Stevan Stanic-Floody, and Finn Harps FC fielded an ineligible player, Gavin Hodgins, in their fixture versus each other on 14 February 2025. In accordance with the FAI Disciplinary Regulations, the result of this fixture is annulled, meaning that the result is void and neither team will receive any points.

As a result of the reduction in points, Wexford FC now sit on second-last (9th) position of the table, with a new record of 2 wins and 4 losses from their opening six games of the League.

Wexford FC still have an option to appeal the decision, although it is unlikely.
