Two Wexford boxers to fight in U-19 All-Ireland finals

It’s a good time to be a fan of boxing in Wexford…

There are now three professional boxers in Wexford, including David Kennedy, Dean Furlong, and Dean Walsh.

Meanwhile, the amateur boxing status in Wexford continues to go from strenght to strenght too.

Two boxers from County Wexford will be fighting in the U-19 All-Ireland finals this Friday. The fights will take place in the National Stadium in Dublin, Friday July 18th.

Gorey boxing prodigy, Kayleigh Byrne, will be fighting Isabel Nolan of Santry Boxing Club. They will compete in the 51kg division for the u-19 All-Ireland title. Byrne was crowned a European Bronze medalist in 2024 – and at just 17, she’s fighting girls that are two years older than her – which is an incredible achievement by itself.

Another Wexford boxer, Patrick Kelly of Kilymysall, will be fighting David Nevin of Mullingar Elite. They will be competiting in the 70kg division for the title.

Another Wexford boxer has been crowned an All-Ireland champion in the division already as her opponent gave her a walk-over. Emily Midwinter from Rosslare Boxing Club has been crowned the champion in the 46kg division.

The first fight on the card will get underway at 6pm. It’s sure to be an excellent night of amateur boxing, with All-Ireland titles on the line for all competitors.
