The Wexford Football League season has ended and now that the dust has settled, it is time for the latest edition of our Wexford Weekly Top 6 players in Wexford, 24/25 edition…
As always it was incredibly difficult to narrow this down to 6. I got to 11 players and it was extremely difficult from there.
Similarly, a constant of this article has been the discussion and different opinions so as always please let us know in the comments your thoughts.
So without any further delay, these are Wexford Weekly’s Top 6 players in the Wexford Football League.
6. Paul “Spot” Murphy – North End United
Paul – more commonly known as ‘Spot – has been an ever present on this list since its inception. Father Time is undefeated as the saying goes, but Spot is doing his best to delay him at least. At the age of 34, he was instrumental to another North End league and Wexford Cup double with 18 league appearances, 8 goals, 2 assists and 4 cup appearances, 1 goal and 1 assist. His influence might not always appear in statistics but in a deeper, more creative role it is no coincidence that North End are at their best when Spot is at his best.

5. Ryan Cullen – Gorey Rangers
A debut on this list for the Gorey man. A rock solid defender capable of playing full back or centre back. I don’t think it’s possible to argue that his best position is centre half and he is one of the best in the county on his day. Solid in the air and in one on one situations while also being comfortable on the ball. A formidable opponent for any striker he faces.

4. Conor Casserly – Gorey Rangers
The second Gorey Rangers man to feature on our list and he returns to the same spot as last year. Not much as changed for Conor he’s still an outstanding full back with his best attributes being his pace, determination and stamina. He is a versatile footballer capable of playing centre back and right midfield which attests to his football IQ.

3. Ryan Busher – Forth Celtic
Ryan returns for the second year. He is an exceptional attacker. His numbers say it all 17 league appearances, 19 goals & 3 assists. 6 Wexford Cup appearances, 6 goals & 5 assists. That’s a sensational return by any measurement. Ryan has pace and directness in abundance making him any defender’s worst nightmare.

2. Eoin Rhodes – North End United
Returning for the second year is in my opinion the best out and out striker in the county. His numbers are slightly down from last year with 18 appearances and 17 goals in all competitions. Saying his numbers are down while listing stats 99% of strikers would be envious of, says it all about this talisman. Rhodes’ movement inside the box is what makes his so dangerous. Defenders think they are safe and a split second he’s wheeling away in celebration.

1. Gary Delaney – North End United
Taking the number one spot yet again is the central defender from North End. He is so dominant at this level, he makes the game look easy. Great 1v1, colossal in the air and comfortable on the ball are some of the attributes that make North End’s Gary Delaney the number one player in the Wexford Football League.
