Host of Wexford stars to feature at Hurling for Cancer game

A host of Wexford natives and stars will feature and represent the county at this year’s Hurling for Cancer Research game….

Hurling for Cancer Research is an annual charity hurling match fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society. The Hurling for Cancer Research event has been running since 2011, making the upcoming (2025) edition the 14th annual match.

It was launched by horse-racing legends Jim Bolger and Davy Russell with the aim of raising funds for cancer research. To date, the Hurling for Cancer Research charity match has raised approximately €1.66 million in total for cancer research.

The 2025 game takes place Monday, August 18th at 7:30pm at Carlow’s Netwatch Cullen Park. The match, which takes place on Monday, will be shown live on TG4 and will see GAA stars from across the coutry battle it out against each other.

A host of Wexford natives will play a part in the game which sees Jim Bolger’s stars line out against Davy Russell’s best.

Jim Bolger’s stars:

Damien Fitzhenry, Lee Chin, and Rory O’Connor have all been named on the starting fifteen. Fitzhenry starts in goal, O’Connor at wing-forward, and Chin in midfield.

Meanwhile, Jack O’Connor, Conor McDonald, Eoin Ryan, Mark Molloy, Sammy McEvoy (all subs), and Liam Griffin, Dave Bernie, and Larry O’Gorman (management) will play a part in the important day which raises vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Davy Russell’s best:

Both Mikey Fogarty and Johnny Fogarty have been named in the subs of the star studded team co-managed by Brian Cody and Liam Cahill.
