Wexford man bidding to become next GAA President

A Wexford man is bidding to become the next GAA President…

At the Wexford GAA Convention held on Monday evening, Wexford man Derek Kent was nominated for Uachtarán CLG (President of GAA).

Kent is the current Chairman of Leinster GAA and has been in this role since 2023, while he also acted as Wexford GAA’s County chairman from 2017-2020.

Kent’s name will now be on the ballot paper for the next GAA Presidency, which would replace current GAA President Jarlath Burns.

Tipperary’s Ger Ryan is also named on the ballot after being nominated by his county.

Speaking about Kent’s nomination, Leinster GAA said:

“Throughout his tenure, both in Leinster and in Wexford, Derek has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of our games. As he prepares to conclude his term at Comhairle Laighean in January, he leaves the province well positioned and on a sound footing for the years ahead. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his continued service to the Association,” they said.

The next GAA President will be elected at the 2026 Annual Congress, as the current President Jarlath Burns, began his three-year term in February 2024.
