Wexford’s Kevin Foley looks at the positives with new faces in the Wexford Senior panel

The Wexford Senior hurlers enjoyed a six point win over Laois in the opening round of the Walsh Cup last weekend…

Wexford were without some of their star players from the last few years. The likes of Rory O’Connor, Eoin Ryan, and Charlie McGuckin have all opted out of the panel to go travelling, while players such as Conor McDonald, Liam Ryan, Jack O’Connor, Lee Chin, Cathal Dunbar, and Conor Hearne were unavailable too.

One of the long-standing Wexford hurlers who was playing against Laois in the 2026 Walsh Cup, however, was Kevin Foley who enjoyed a role in both the full-forward and half-forward line, getting on a lot of ball in the second half in particular.

Speaking after the game to Clubber TV was Kevin Foley, who was named as the Man of the Match by the sports streaming platform.

Speaking about the new members who are are being embedded into the panel for the 2026 season, the Rapparees man looked at the positives:

“It’s great like. There’s a huge new panel really. We’ve been trucking away for the last few weeks and it’s great for lads to be getting a taste of it. It’s great for lads; they’ve been putting their hands up in the last couple of weeks. We’ve had a couple of challenge games, the exhibition game, and today (against Laois), some of the lads were brilliant.”

“The likes of Eamonn Wickham, Edward Dunbar, Ciaran Regan. They’ve been savage lads. They’ve been knocking on the door for the last couple of years. It will only strenghten up the panel again. And we’re looking forward to the next one (Dublin),” Kevin Foley said.

Along with fresh blood on the panel, Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter will be hoping that some older, familiar faces will rejoin the panel too.
