A veteran broadcaster announced his departure from South East Radio after an extraordinary 37-year career on the Wexford-based station…
His warm, conversational style made him a staple of daily life for many, particularly during his long-running 3–6pm slot.
Jimmy Ryan has been a familiar and trusted voice to generations of listeners across the South East, best known for his engaging afternoon programme presenting ‘Drive Time’, where he combined music, local stories, community interviews, and listener interaction.
In a brief statement shared with listeners, Ryan confirmed the news of his departure, noting that he has been made redundant by the Wexford-based radio station:
“Hi everyone, I just thought I’d let you know, after nearly 37 years on South East Radio, I’ve been made redundant. My last show is today (Friday) from 3-6pm. Thanks for all the support and loyalty over the years. Please share if you can, so all my listeners will know,” Jimmy Ryan shared.
Over the years, he has also presented a variety of shows on Southeast Radio including ‘The Late Night Affair ‘, ‘The power FM’, ‘The Late Zone’, ‘Friday Night 80’s’, and ‘The Lunchtime Show.’
Over nearly four decades, Ryan played a central role in the station’s identity, helping to shape its strong connection with the local community.
From covering regional events to supporting local initiatives and charities, his broadcasting went far beyond entertainment, reflecting the everyday lives and concerns of his audience.
His exit marks the end of an era for his involvement with South East Radio, with many listeners expressing appreciation for his decades of dedication and the lasting impact he has had on local broadcasting.

Tributes have poured in since he made the announcement with one common theme: he will be sorely missed by his listeners.
His departure comes one week after South East Radio advertised the role of a ‘weekend presenter’, inviting applicants to submit their CV for that role.
