There’s some absolutely brilliant news coming out of Wexford GAA…
The upcoming Wexford hurling and football fixtures have been fixed as a double header in Wexford Park.
The Wexford Senior hurlers will take on Dublin in Round 3 of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship. Meanwhile, the Wexford Senior footballers will take on Limerick in Round 1 of the Tailteann Cup. The double-header will take place on Saturday, 9 May.
Keith Rossiter’s Wexford hurling team will be up first (4pm), with John Hegarty’s Senior football team on directly afterwards (6pm).
A huge crowd is expected to attend to cheer on the two Wexford teams given that these double-headers don’t come around too often — and given the importance of both matches.
Despite losing to Kilkenny, Wexford are still in the hunt for a place in the All-Ireland series. Their realistic aim at this stage is now a third-placed position; a win against the Dubs is vital to help to secure that spot. The hurlers are likely on a low ebb after the heavy defeat to Kilkenny, but with a large crowd in attendance — and with a place still up for grabs — it’s a perfect opportunity to bounce back and show what they’re capable of.
Meanwhile, after an excellent Leauge campaign which seen the Wexford footballers promoted to Division 2, they’ll be hoping to get a result against a familiar foe. Both sides have met multiple times over the past few years and know each other quite well.
