It’s less than one week since a new local radio station was launched in Gorey…
The new radio station, WNSR, aims to serve both Wexford North and Wicklow South. Familiar voices are on this new online radio station, including Dave Redmond, Johnnie Carter, and Jimmy Ryan.
Aanother new independent radio station has since popped up — this time, in Wexford town, with the station launching on the airwaves at 7pm on Monday evening, May 11.
The new Wexford town radio station is called ‘Wexford New People’s Movement Radio’, or WNPMR for short. The Wexford New Peoples Movement Radio studio recently opened inside the popular Red Books bookstore in Wexford town. The WNPMR station, with Tony Bergin and Paul Wright leading the way, may be a little bit different than the traditional radio station though, acting as a non-profit and non-advertising radio station with a focus on the not just music, but many of the arts:
“Wexford New Peoples Movement Radio, a non-profit/non-advertising community online radio station within Red Books. WNPMR have always been commited to promoting new Wexford, Irish and International music, and we hope to work with them to open up new opportunities for local writers, spoken-word artists, poets and creatives to be promoted,” a statement read.
It’s not the only new Wexford radio station in the mix though.
Another radio station in Gorey, seperate from WNSR — simply called Gorey FM — has been teasing and promoting the launch of their new radio station for the past two months. We reached out to Gorey FM via email one month ago, but they remained tight-lipped on their new venture and little is known about it.
Despite that, in a Facebook post, a spokesperson for Gorey FM shared that they were “aware” of the launch of another station in the same area and wished them the best of luck, before further promoting their own venture.
Should Gorey FM become a reality, it could mean that County Wexford has seen three brand new radio stations launched within a one or two week period.
