Darragh Ennis from The Chase shares his favourite memory of Wexford

Ahead of his highly-anticipated live quiz tour, Wexford Weekly’s Adam Connor sat down with The Chase’s Darragh “The Menace” Ennis to get his thoughts ahead of the tour…

Firstly, I asked how excited he was to bring the live quiz to Ireland and could fans of The Chase expect to recognise any familiar elements?

Darragh was extremely excited about Irish audiences attending.

But also, he was keen to stress that it’s not The Chase. Instead, it’s a pub quiz.

There isn’t thousands of Euros to be won, there’s a trophy and bragging rights instead. The vibe I got from talking to Darragh is that this is more fun than competitive. While the competitive quizzer is more than welcome to test their knowledge, there will also be room for those who are not so competitive.

The quiz is done via the Redtooth Smart Quiz app, while there are also mini games and music rounds. Every second round will be a 10/15 minute break; in that time, members of the audience will get the opportunity to ask Darragh questions — “the more unusual the better,” he said.

Then, I asked Darragh about the challenges regarding having seven shows in seven different locations throughout Ireland. The tour itself will bring Darragh “all over the country,” with White’s of Wexford in Wexford town being just one venue. One could imagine that the travelling, the different locations, and the unknown could be difficult to hurdle.

The tour should be easily adaptable to each venue, but the biggest concern will be the sound system. However, Darragh stressed to me that he has been assured that each venue has adequate sound systems for each night. One night, the sound system wasn’t working correctly and for a music round he had to sing some of the songs — which made for a unique evening… but hopefully that won’t be necessary for any of the upcoming dates.

I then asked Darragh if there was any particular venue or location in the tour he was looking forward to the most. While he admitted there was no particular venue he was most excited for, what he was really looking forward to was bringing this quiz to an Irish crowd. He emphasised that Irish crowds bring something different and unique to the event.

“I’m delighted to be bringing my live quiz back to Ireland. These shows are all about having fun, testing your knowledge, and sharing a great night out with friends and family. I can’t wait to visit so many fantastic venues around the country and meet everyone this September,” Darragh Ennis told Wexford Weekly.

Lastly, I had to enquire if Darragh had a favourite memory of Wexford.

“I haven’t been to Wexford in quite a while, but one memory does stand out. Myself and my family were travelling to Rosslare for the Ferry when we were going on holiday — and we stopped in a town for food, but the name has escaped me. We ordered a pizza and I remember the chef tossing the dough in the air. I thought that was something that only happened on TV. I can’t really remember anything from the holiday, but I do vividly remembered the pizza we got as we passed through Wexford,” Ennis told Wexford Weekly.
