Davy Fitzgerald To Continue In His Role As Wexford Senior Hurling Manager

Wexford GAA have been given a significant boost with the news that Davy Fitzgerald will continue as Wexford manager for 2021..

The news comes just two days after Wexford exited the championship to the hands of Fitzgerald’s native County Clare. Wexford suffered a 1-21 to 0-17 defeat in Portlaoise

According to reports, Fitzgerald sent a message to the panel on Monday signalling his intentions to stay on as Wexford boss for 2021.

Fitzgerald will now go into his fifth year as Wexford Senior hurling boss and he obviously feels he bring them a bit further. He was disappointed after the loss to Galway and was not impressed with his players performances on the field stating that they threw in the towel.

One could argue that Wexford have progressed well under Fitzgerald and he has brought the county a lot of good days over the past four years.

The Banner-man has brought Wexford to a Leinster Senior hurling glory in 2019 after they held off Kilkenny, before they narrowly lost out to eventual All-Ireland champions Tipperary in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final.

After the highs of 2019, a thirteen point loss to Galway and a loss to Clare in the qualifiers were disappointing results for Wexford.

Under Fitzgerald, the Model County were also promoted to hurling’s top flight in the National Hurling League.

2020 has been a strange year with players, like everyone, having various other things on their minds other than hurling.

But, one thing is for sure; there are plenty of good days ahead for the purple and gold and let’s all hope that is in 2021.
