Sydney Swans Release Wexford’s Barry O’Connor; Don’t Offer New Contract

It looks like Barry O’Connor’s time at Sydney Swans has came to an end…

That’s after the professional Australian Football outfit have announced that they will not be offering the Wexford-man a new contract.

“Lewis and Barry have been excellent contributors to our club, and have shared some unique and memorable experiences with our group over the past three seasons,” said Sydney Swans Executive General Manager Charlie Gardiner.

“It’s a difficult time of year when list changes must be made, and we wish Lewis and Barry all the best in their next pursuits,” he said.

O’Connor made the move to Australia in 2019 as an International Category B Rookie.

Sydney Swans announced that both Barry O’Connor and Lewis Taylor would not be on their list for 2023.

While one door closes for O’Connor, another door may open. There is no doubt that he would be welcomed back with open arms to St Martins and to the Wexford inter-county football set-up with new manager John Hegarty.
