Swedish Hockey Captain Has Links To Wexford

This was a proud moment for the family and their connections….

Paul Leacy, originally from Bellefield in the Enniscorthy area of Wexford, watched the Swedish national hockey team with pride as his daughter led the charges.

Paul’s daughter, Eimear Leacy, led out the Swedish team in her first-ever international hockey match at the Eis Sport Arena in Austria.

Eimear also has an older sister, Aoife, who is also a rising star in the world of ice hockey in Sweden. They have links to Wexford and Ireland through their father, Paul, their grandmother Lilly Leacy who is heavily involved in the church in Wexford, and their grandfather, Pat Leacy, who worked in the post office.

Speaking about the game, proud father Paul stated:

“What an honour to watch your daughter captain her country in her first-ever international.”

It’s great to see Eimear excel and captain her adopted country. There’s no doubt that she has a lengthy career on the ice ahead of her.
