Listen: Darragh Egan sends classy message to Wexford Senior hurlers for 2024

Wexford GAA are now looking for a new manager after they decided not to extend Darragh Egan’s contract as Wexford’s Senior hurling manager

The now former Wexford hurling manager was speaking on RTE Radio 1 recently and the Tipperary man sent a classy message to the Wexford hurling players.

“I really enjoyed my time there. I built up a huge bond with the players; it was great to have their support. I thought I had loads to offer for 2024 – we had a freak 2023 with loads of injuries and a few crazy results. I felt I had loads to offer, but unfortunately, I’m not going to get that opportunity – and that’s fine.

“I wish the players the very best of luck in 2024. I would have built a great bond with them and I genuinely hope that they all stick together now and that they’ll have a cut out of 2024,” he said, speaking to RTE.

In the interview, he also spoke about the work he had been doing over the last few weeks in particular, attempting to change the backroom team for the following year. Egan was also seen at most of the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship games, looking at new players to draft into the panel for the following year:

“I had a lot of work done over the last few weeks. Getting a bit of freshness into the backroom team and a lot of different meetings – but as it transpired, that opportunity wasn’t going to be given to me. I’ll just have to move on now – and wish the boys the very best of luck.”

Speaking on the podcast, the 37-year-old mentioned that he would like to “see where the path takes him” but he would also like to continue on in management.
