Conor McDonald shares his toughest-ever opponent – and it’s a Wexford man

Both Billy Byrne and Conor McDonald were the guests on this week’s ‘One Life One Club’ vodcast…

Season 2 of the vodcast, which is in association with Wexford Weekly, sees both Billy and Conor sit down for a light-hearted chat about all things hurling at The Complex Bar.

McDonald was asked about his toughest-ever opponent.

“It’s funny because, anyone who ever asks me this, I always say Liam Ryan from the Rapparees. I don’t know whether it’s because we hurl on each other in training, club, and county.”

“You always know you’re going out with a bit of confidence because you know you’ve already marked one of the best full-backs in Ireland.”

“I’ve only spoken about it recently. There are maulers, sweepers, and spoilers. Conor Cleary was tough to mark. Sean Finn – marked twice, wasn’t as physical but he’d try to out-hurl you always there with a hook or a block. But I would say Liam – there’s always a good battle between us,” the Naomh Eanna man said.
