Wilton Bridge in Wexford finally reopens after almost 2 years following Christmas Day floods in 2021

This has been a long time coming…

Wexford County Councillor, Cathal Byrne, shared some positive news yesterday.

“Some positive news for local residents in Bree and Davidstown with confirmation that Wilton Bridge reopened on Friday 17th of November,” he said.

The bridge was very badly damaged in the Christmas Day storms in December 2021 along with many other bridges in Wexford.

Speaking about its reopening, Byrne stated:

“This was a particularly complex project due to the heritage of the original bridge and as a result it has taken quite some time to complete and has caused significant inconvenience.”

“Along with my colleague local TD Paul Kehoe I have been working closely with Wexford County Council on this project to keep it firmly on the agenda and I would like to thank the Council, Engineers Eamonn Hore and Neil Dempsey and the contractors for their tireless work in completing this very difficult job.”

It’s very good news for the local community. Although Byrne notes the difficulty of the job at hand, one must question how – and why – this took so long to reopen, but at least it’s back open now to the public.
