Wexford based author RN Cogley to release a new novel

A Wexford man is set to release a new novel…

Wexford-based author, RN Cogley, is set to release his novel entitled ‘An Inquiry Into Innocence’ on 23rd January.

This new psychological crime novel is out on 23rd January and delves into mental illness within the Irish prison system and raises awareness of domestic abuse between gay couples.

An Inquiry into Innocence weaves both the author’s interest in the prevalence of mental illness within the Irish prison system and his keenness to raise awareness of domestic abuse between gay couples together, in a novel that piques readers’ curiosity from the outset.

Skilfully putting the psychologist in his narrative centre stage, as they attempt to unlock the memories that will determine the protagonist’s guilt or innocence, this new novel ticks all the boxes as a page turning and entertaining read, whilst leaving readers much to ponder on issues that may not have, until now, hit their radar.

With an inquiring mind and passion for forensically researching the issues he brings into his storytelling, R.N. Cogley is a young novelist who will find favour with all those who enjoy in-depth novels that bring real-world issues to the fore in a heart-wrenchingly personal way.

Speaking to Wexford Weekly, the author stated that:

“As part of my master’s by research degree, my thesis title was: “Fitness to Stand Trial in Ireland: An Investigation Into Attitudes and Legal Decision-Making.” For this thesis, I heavily researched the prevalence of mental illness in Irish prisons, the right to a fair trial and the fitness to be tried standard, thus leading me to create An Inquiry Into Innocence and examine these themes within the story.

“Then as a gay man myself, I was interested in exploring how a same sex relationship may flourish in a prison environment. Also, through my examination of same sex domestic abuse, I heard a lot of stories where police didn’t take claims seriously because they viewed the conflict as a fair fight i.e., man vs man or woman vs woman. By making Eli (our main character) suffer through domestic abuse, and by having the police do nothing to help him even after the abuse is reported, I hope to raise awareness of this significant issue,” he told Wexford Weekly.

R. N. Cogley is an Irish writer from Wexford. He is the author of the bestselling ‘The Elemental Witches’ series, and his short stories, poetry and creative non-fiction pieces have been published all around the world.
