A young Wexford native has secured a move to Serie A side..

Young Wexford man, Jesse Dempsey (18), has secured a move to Leece who play their football in the Serie A in Italy.

Dempsey, who went to school in Wexford CBS, played underage football with Wexford Albion, before moving to UCD.

As per an article with the Irish Examiner, he broke into the Students’ Premier Division and Ireland U19 teams over 2023 and had options to remain in Ireland or the UK this year, however, he opted to move to Leece to play his football when that option arose.

News of his transfer came in on Monday, with his former school being one of the first to congratulate the youngster on his new football move.

“Incredible news as Jesse Dempsey one of our star players in the all Ireland win last year has signed for Serie A side Lecce. What an opportunity for the talented left back who has worked so hard to get there. Buona Fortuna Jesse,” they said.

Dempsey is not the first Wexford man to secure a move to the Serie A. Dempsey will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Festy Ebolese who has become a regular starter for Udinese and who was drafted into Stephen Kenny’s Republic of Ireland Senior squad as a result of his performances.
