Former Wexford hurler Paudie Foley rules out inter-county return for 2024

It’s fair to say that the big Crossabeg-Ballymurn man is missed in the Wexford hurling scene…

Paudie Foley was a commanding presence with the Wexford Senior hurlers before he embarked on his travels abroad.

Foley, who is living in Australia, emigrated last year and he is now preparing for the Melbourne 7’s which is a GAA tournament Down Under.

Speaking in an interview with SportsJOE.ie, the former Wexford hurler has appeared to rule out a return to Keith Rossiter’s Senior hurling side for the 2024 season.

“Who knows about July or August. I’ve a wedding that I want to go to in August and the Fleadh Cheoil is on in Wexford too. You couldn’t miss that. Maybe for my club, later on in the year, that’s what I’d be looking towards, being around for that.

“But if I was to play inter-county, you would want to be back in January at least. It’s not a case that you could just walk home and fit straight back in, it’s definitely a different level now.

“So Jesus I doubt it this year,” he says of playing for Wexford.

While it is logical to say, it’s still difficult to read from a Wexford hurling supporter’s perspective. There is always that ounce of hope that exists that thinks he may return to the Purple and Gold sooner rather than later, but being out of action and without match fitness, his comments makes perfect sense too.
