One Wexford GAA player named on GAA.ie’s Football Team of the Week

Wexford finished their Allianz Football League campaign with a win over Longford…

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to see John Hegarty’s footballers gain promotion.

Wexford lost out to Leitrim in the Head to Head for promotion. In Wexford’s match against Leitrim, Leitrim were handed a last-minute penalty by the referee which was a very dubious decision to say the least – and one that gained national headlines at the time.

Despite not securing promotion to Division 3, the Wexford footballers will be happy with their campaign and with their progress.

In their last game against Longford, one Wexford player received plaudits in particular – and that was Shelmaliers’ clubman, Glen Malone, after he was named on the GAA.ie’s Gaelic Football Team of the Week.

Malone has been named in the wing-back spot of a star-studded team. Alongside Malone includes players of the calibre of Brian Howard, Tadhg Morley, and Derry’s Ethan Doherty.

A special mention must also go to Wexford GAA stalwart, Ben Brosnan, who was celebrated at the end of the game for getting 175 caps for Wexford in competitive action, in either the Allianz Football League or the All-Ireland Championship. Here’s hoping it’s not the last we see of Brosnan wearing the Purple and Gold.
