Young Wexford girl picks up two medals and now moves onto European Championships

A young Wexford girl has picked up two medals at a recent European Taek-Kwon Do event…

The event, which took place on Saturday April 13th in Poland’s Wroclaw, seen a young Wexford girl claim two bronze medals at a European Taek-Kwon-Do event.

She won two bronze medals, for sparring and patterns. Next up for Sophie is the European Championships which will take place this Summer. In July, she will be competing in the European Championships in Wales as captain of the Irish Junior Girls Team.

One of the first to congratulate her on her success was her school, Gorey Community School.

“Huge congratulations to Sophie Whelan in 5th Year who represented Ireland at Tae Kwon Do championships in Wroclaw, Poland over the Easter Holidays…Well done Sophie, we’re all very proud of you,” the school shared through their social media channels.

Sophie Whelan is no stranger to success. In 2022, she who won 4 bronze medals in the International Taekwondo Federation World Championships in Amsterdam.
