The top six players in the Wexford Football League for 2024

The Wexford football season is over and that means just one thing: it’s time for another edition of the Top Six players in the Wexford Football League…

This list has at times been controversial but that is the beauty of football, we all have our own opinions. I love hearing what changes people would make to this list so all always feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments!

Now let’s get to it, the top 6 players in the Wexford Football League from 2023/24 in my opinion are as follows;

6) Stephen Kinsella – Gorey Rangers

Stephen has been a constant in this list since its inception. A testament to his consistency. He is still the deep lying playmaker for Rangers. He was crucial in their run to the FAI Cup final this year and scored an outrageous effort from a free kick in the final. He has two Wexford Cup medals along with the Premier Division title he helped Rangers win in 2022/23.

Gorey rangers midfielder, Steven Kinsella, caught everyone off guard with this amazing free kick in the FAI Junior Cup Final against Cockhill Celtic 😳 #FAIJuniorCup #Ireland #football #goreyrangers #cockhillceltic #freekick #bestgoals #goals #wexford #donegal #galway

5) Ryan Busher – Forth Celtic

A first-time entrant in this list. Ryan is an attacker for Forth Celtic who looks most comfortable when the ball is at his feet and he is terrorising opposition defenders with his pace and trickery. He helped guide Forth to a third-place finish and a Wexford Cup medal this year. His numbers speak for themselves, in all competitions this year: 26 appearances, 21 goals and 11 assists. Those are excellent numbers for any player and really speak to how Ryan has made his debut appearance on this list.

4) Conor Casserly – Gorey Rangers

Our second player from Gorey Rangers to make the list and the second player to make his debut. A constant standout who can play centre back, right back or occasionally right midfield. I enjoy watching Conor most at right full when he can use his pace, determination and excellent stamina to continually marauding down the right wing helping in attack while also being a great 1on1 defender proving himself to be a winger’s worst nightmare. He was a part of the side in the FAI Cup final earlier in the year. He also added a personal award to his collection as he was Premier Division player of the year for 2023/24.

3) Eoin Rhodes – North End United

Our first North End player to make an appearance in this year’s addition, another debut and it’s the prolific front man, Eoin Rhodes. His numbers are exemplary for a striker. 20 appearances, 25 goals and 3 assists. He is arguably the most feared striker in the county and one of the most in the country. He is never out of the game. If he is having an average or even poor game outside of the 18-yard box, one chance in it and he is wheeling away celebrating as the match winner. Strong in the air, deadly finishing and outstanding movement all combine to make Eoin a deadly marksman and number 3 on our list this year.

2) Paul Murphy – North End United

Another ever-present on this list, in spots 2,3 and now 2 again. Another extremely consistent player. The talisman for North End United for many years now. Paul might be on the back end of his career, I hope he will forgive me for saying, but is still equally as effective. Playing slightly deeper but doing as much damage as ever. His numbers in a more creative role are very impressive. 23 appearances, 10 goals, 13 assists. His class is evident whenever you watch him play and it is clear that when he is at his best it is no coincidence that North End are also at their best.

1) Gary Delaney – North End United

Another ever-present, in his ever-present spot at number one. I have seen what I have always seen whenever I have watched Gary play for North End. Outstanding 1on1 defending, strong in the air, calm on the ball and excellent leadership to control the backline. Crucial for North End for years as he and the team have collected every medal there is available to collect. Much like Paul Murphy, when Gary plays well, North End always have a chance. Another year deserving of the number one spot in my opinion!
