Our best Wexford hurling team over the last 30 years from 1994-2024

On Tuesday evening, we received an email. A Carlow man, Loftus Warren, wanted us to share his best Wexford team from 1950-2024…

His team received some traction online via our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter in particular. Loftus’ excellent team, which includes many from past generations, can be seen below:

One of the glaring omissions was centre-back Liam Dunne. Another aspect that glared out is that only Lee Chin emerged from the current generation of hurlers. Some suggested that it’s unfair to compare generations, especially given how long ago it was. Others suggested that it would be better if the the Wexford team was picked over the last 30 years.

So, we had a think about it, and this is what we came up with below:

Of course, it’s always difficult to compare generations of hurlers. It was a completely different time. Different speed, different sliotar, different athleticism and all in all a completely different game – but we gave it a go anyway to spark a little discussion, so feel free to place your changes into the comments section of the website or via our socials.

In related news, Loftus Warren is seeking information on a topical moment from the 1956 All-Ireland hurling final between Wexford and Cork. He’s looking for first-hand information on Art Foley’s “save” from Christy Ring. For those with information, you can contact Loftus Warren on: 0861258431, while his friend Eddie Byrne may be contacted on 0872899535.
