Carlow man requires information on talking point from Wexford’s 1956 All-Ireland final

A Carlow man, now living in Kildare – Loftus Warren – is seeking information on a talking point which occurred during the game.

The final, which was held at Croke Park, was between Wexford and Cork on 23 September 1956. Wexford ran out winners on the day winning on a score-line of 2-14 to 2-08.

He is aware that people on the team, or those in attendance, will no longer be with us – but he hopes that some people will distinctively remember a specific moment.

One of the moments of the game was when Art Foley made a save from the great Christy Ring, one that has went down in folklore. However, on the matter, Art said:

“Everyone talked about the catch I made, I did not make a catch – I blocked the ball with my hurley…”

Wexford wing-back, the late Jim English stated that his memory must have been fading – because, he did in fact make a brilliant catch.

We received this letter on behalf of a friend of Loftus Warren, which you can read below:

Friend of Loftus, Eddie Byrne, told us that the moment is something that has been “bothering him for a number of years.”

For those with information, you can contact Loftus Warren on: 0861258431, while his friend Eddie Byrne may be contacted on 0872899535.
