12 firearms seized in North Wexford since start of February

Twelve firearms have been have been seized across North Wexford for the month of February…

To date in February, 12 firearms have been seized across Wexford North for expired or invalid firearms licences. These firearms, which require a certificate, are typically used for “recreational purposes such as target shooting or hunting” and for “killing pests or for the humane killing of animals.” As per Citizens Information Ireland, a firearm certificate lasts for 3 years and it must be renewed then. A firearm certificate costs €80 for 3 years for any type of firearm.

Speaking on the matter, An Garda Síochána in Wexford stated:

“It is a serious offence to hold a firearm without a valid firearm licence, and Gardaí are attending houses known to have expired firearm certificates to seize any firearms not covered by a licence.

Renewal form FCA1 must be submitted in order to renew a firearms licence, and failing to comply with this, or any conditions attached to the firearm or licence will lead to the seizure of the firearm by An Garda Síochána.”

Those with an invalid license, or a license that is up for renewal, should contact their local Garda Station to arrange to speak with a local firearms officer.
