Some Wexford hurlers are currently preparing for an International clash…
The Wexford u-18 hurlers will take on the Scotland u-18s in ‘Shinty-Hurling’ on August 5th.
Shinty–hurling is a hybrid sport that combines elements of shinty (a Scottish stick-and-ball game) and hurling. It’s played in friendly or exhibition matches between Scottish and Irish teams, most notably between the Irish hurling team and the Scottish shinty team. The first recorded shinty–hurling match between Ireland and Scotland was played in Glasgow. It was part of efforts to strengthen Celtic cultural ties.
It’s the second year in a row that the Wexford hurlers will be taking on Scotland – adding another offering for the busy crowds who will be in Wexford town for the upcoming Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann.
The ‘Shinty-Hurling’ match will take place in Wexford Park at 7pm.
It is free admission and no tickets are required to gain entry to the game.
Another event in Wexford Park will also be taking place during the week of the Fleadh, as Wexford attempts to break another World Record, with this one being for the largest ever Ceilí Band. The World-Record attempt will take place on Thursday, 7th August 2025 at Wexford Park.
Fleadh Cheoil Dates:
Sun, Aug 3, 2025 – Sun, Aug 10, 2025
