Halloween Fun Run to take place in County Wexford

There’s something spooky stirring in Gorey Town Park this October, and it’s not just the ghosts and goblins….

Gorey Athletics Club, in partnership with Wexford County Council, has announced details of a Halloween Fun Run, taking place at 10:00am on Sunday, 26th October 2025.

The event promises to be a frightfully fun morning for families, runners, and walkers of all ages, with a 2km fancy dress fun run through the park. Participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity with witches, vampires, superheroes, pumpkins, and skeletons all welcome. The only rule is to have fun!

A Celebration for the Whole Community

The Halloween Fun Run marks another exciting chapter in Gorey Athletics Club’s comeback story. Re-established only 6 months days ago, the club has grown rapidly into one of the largest in County Wexford, reigniting Gorey’s proud athletics tradition through its Minis, Juvenile, Youth, Senior, and Fit for Life groups.

The club’s recent Table Quiz Fundraiser, held at the Loch Garman Arms Hotel, was a tremendous success, bringing together families, members, and supporters for a night full of laughter, prizes, and local spirit. The funds raised will directly support upcoming community events, coaching programmes, and equipment as the club continues to expand.

This event is about more than running. It’s about getting families active, celebrating the Halloween spirit, and bringing the community together to have fun,” said Conor Hogan, Joint PRO of Gorey AC. “We’ve had an incredible 6 months of growth and the incredible support from the people of Gorey has been the biggest contributor to that growth. This fun run is partly our way of saying thank you for being so welcoming.”

Keeping the Momentum Going

As the darker evenings set in, Gorey AC’s Minis (3-6yrs) and younger Juvenile groups (6-10yrs) have now taken their well-earned winter break, rounding off their season with smiles, new pals, and plenty of muddy memories. However, the club’s Fit for Life, Senior, and Youth squads will continue to train throughout the winter months, keeping fitness levels up and friendships strong as they prepare for the rest of the cross-country season ahead.

The Halloween Fun Run serves as the perfect bridge between the end of the summer season and the winter training cycle, offering a fun and inclusive event for everyone before the clocks change and the ghosts come out to play.

A Treat for the Kids

All younger participants in the Fun Run will receive a Certificate of Achievement for completing the course, a small token to mark their effort, enthusiasm, and Halloween spirit. The emphasis is firmly on fun rather than competition, with spooky decorations, friendly volunteers, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.

Building the Future of Athletics in Gorey

The Halloween Fun Run is one of several community-focused initiatives from Gorey Athletics Club as it continues to rebuild its place in the town’s sporting landscape. With growing membership across every age group, strong community backing, and the support of Wexford County Council, the club is determined to make athletics accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.

Gorey has always had an incredible sporting heartbeat,” Hogan added. “Events like this show what’s possible when a community comes together. It’s not just about athletics; it’s about belonging, staying healthy, and having a bit of craic along the way.

So dust off the cobwebs, find your fangs, and lace up your runners. It’s time to join the fun, if you dare.
