Wexford sports star to give talk on cyber-bullying

A Wexford sports star is set to give an important talk to the public…

Former Wexford camogie star and current pundit on The Sunday Game, Ursula Jacob, will give an important talk on cyber-bullying and how to navigate it.

She will be speaking in Askamore as part of a new community series of talks organised by Askamore local, Sean Byrne. Usula’s talk will take place on Tuesday, 13 Jan. The New Year Talks series have a primary focus on mental health and wellbeing.

With Wexford and her club team Oulart The Ballagh, she who won 4 All Ireland Senior Camogie titles, 4 All Star awards, 10 Leinster titles and captained Wexford to All Ireland glory in 2011.

Speaking ahead of the event, organiser Sean Byrne said that her talk will come at a fitting time for the public:

“In a week where the exploitation of women and children on the Internet has been highly topical and exposed it is highly fitting that former Wexford camogie star and The Sunday Game pundit Ursula Jacob should be coming to Askamore to speak on resilience and cyberbullying. She will speak in the second half of New Year New You on Tuesday night,” he said.

Ursula is no stranger to online bullying. Most of the abuse she received was about the sound of her voice, and she hit back at online trolls in 2022, noting at the time that “enough is enough” and that she needed to take back control:

“Ursula was a victim of Internet trolling a number of years ago. She will share her experience and the effects it had on her and on the practical ways she learned to cope. Bullying occurs in many different forms, and Ursulas insight will offer many reassurances for anybody trying to navigate the digital world,” Sean said.

Alongside Ursula on the night will be teacher, Marie Cullen. Marie is passionate about the welfare of young people through her work as a teacher in Colaiste Bhride Carnew.

The talk will take place at the Askamore Community Centre on Tuesday (13th Jan) at 7:30pm. Admission is €10 which can be paid upon entry.
