The Wexford Senior hurlers have won their first three opening games of the Allianz Hurling League…
With wins over Antrim, Down, and Carlow, Keith Rossiter’s charges sit on second place of the Allianz Hurling League, behind Clare on points difference.
Tougher tests lie ahead for the Wexford Senior hurlers though, with away clashes against Dublin in Croke Park and then Clare in Ennis to look come.
The Wexford Senior hurlers were impacted by several members leaving the squad for various reasons ahead of the new campaign. They included Charlie McGuckin, Eoin Ryan, Cathal Dunbar, Conor McDonald, Rory O’Connor, and Liam Ryan.
Although he has not rejoined the panel yet for 2026 since going on his honeymoon, Keith Rossiter remains hopeful that Rapparees club man, Liam Ryan, will make a return.
Speaking in this week’s Wexford People, the Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter provided an update on the Wexford star who made his debut for the Model County in 2014:
“Myself and Liam will be having a conversation soon, and I hope it will be a positive one. I think Liam has a massive amount to offer Wexford still. He’s had bad luck with injuries since I took over as manager. But the other side of that, if he can get over the injuries, I think that Liam Ryan with a bit of bite, a bit of keenness, and a bit of freshness has a load to offer this group, Wexford hurling, and himself. I’m hoping it’s going to be a positive conversation,” Keith Rossiter told the Wexford People.
Ryan’s absence has been felt in the full-back line. The Wexford star provides strenght, power, height — along with the hurling skills that can match any top inter-county forward.
Although he was somewhat plagued with injuries last season, there’s no doubt that he would be a great addition to the panel if fully fit.
In previous games, Rossiter has tried to fill the void placing players like Eoin Whelan, Philip Dempsey, Conor Foley, and a roaming Damien Reck in that pivotal position.
Even though a good run in the Allianz League is important for the Model County, Rossiter has admitted that his primary focus is on the Championship.
Whether or not we will see Liam Ryan in Wexford colours come Championship remains to be seen, but if he has his sights on rejoining the panel, Wexford fans will be hoping that he joins sooner rather than later.
