Transfers: A look at the club switches ahead of the new GAA season

Multiple inter-county transfers have been granted ahead of the new season….

This article looks only at the inter-county transfers both to and from Wexford GAA clubs. It does not include club transfers within Wexford.

For the new season, typically transfers are sent from October onwards. If the club does not appeal the transfer within 10 days, then the transfer request is approved. All inter-county transfers below have been granted by the Wexford GAA County Board and the associated clubs.

In contrast, Mayo GAA seen a total of 43 inter-county transfers ahead of the new season. Most transfers like this are mostly concerned with players going to live in a different country for a year or two, before they eventually return to their home club.

Barry O’Connor’s transfer back to Australia was unfortunately one that was expected, completely ruling himself out for a call-up to either of the Wexford squads after a fantastic campaign with St Marrtins. Meanwhile, former Wexford goalkeeper James Lawlor has made a transfer from his home club of Ferns to the same club that Barry is at.

Regarding the football, St Fintans are delighted to see Donal Shanley back on home-soil. The St Fintans clubman, who has returned from Australia, was also part of John Hegarty’s Wexford Senior Football panel last week against Limerick.
